It had been 2 hours since she had left the castle. Aiden was following close, liking this adventure of going out of the castle at night. Aurora was glad of that. Glad that he was not frighten.
Because she sure as heck was...
Running a long the snow, and trees of the small woods they were passing Aiden tried to stay close but kept going to far. His mother keep calling him back, and keeping him from exploring.
Turning some of the trees, he looked over at a small clearing and a stream. With out waiting for permission he took off running! He wanted to see what was in the stream. "Aiden!" He heard his mother yell at him but he was already at the stream If he was going to get yelled at he wanted it to be for a good reason. "Hold on, mother!" He looked around the stream and saw a small bear, he started to walk near it. "Mother! Look!" It was so small. "Come here, girl." He said, assuming it was a she. It had to be a baby. Aiden did not see the bigger bear, who was not liking him getting close to her baby.
NO! Aurora ran for Aiden! NO! She had meant to leave and seek help, not leave and damn then both to die! "AIDEN!" She called for him! "AIDEN! NO!" She somehow managed to get to him before the mama bear. She picked her son up and darted the other way, carrying his weight as well as her on as the Mother bear followed. Aurora was not fast however, as she was not used to running, much less with the weight or with her long dress on.

This was a new land; an unfamiliar land. It was a kingdom. He had traveled through many of them, and this one was easily recognizable without signs. There was one sign, one clear as the sky on a sunny day: the cold. The snow. This was the 8th Kingdom indeed, and Marius was holding back shivers. It would not look very knightly if his teeth were chattering and he had his arms folded across his chest. Instead, he kept both his hands on the reigns of his noble steed and maintained an upright position.
He heard a cry; a woman calling for her child. A damsel in distress perhaps. Now Marius was not the kind of man who would rescue a woman and then expect some kind of reward. He helped people because he had to; because he had to redeem himself. He did not hesitate; he pulled the reigns of his horse and sat in pure silence, listening to where the sound was coming from.
Lightly kicking the sides of his horse, he rode on, riding as fast as he could, hoping he was not too late for he did not hear the cries of the woman anymore. When he got there, he saw a woman carrying a child and running from a bear. He quickly got off his horse and pulled out his sword. "Stay back vicious beast!" He cried in a rather dramatic, deep voice. "Back I say!" He did not lunge to stab the bear, but he lunged in a threatening manner. "It is a creature of hell who threatens an innocent woman and child! Be gone creature! For if not, you will feel the wrath and penetration of my sword as I stand on the blood stained snow. Back!"
He wondered if the animal could actually hear him. Surely not, though he had encountered magical beings in the past. It was probably the long blade that caused the bear to slowly decline. He waited until it was out of sight, and turned to the woman, slowly putting his sword back into its holder. "Are you alright Miss?" He asked, noticing that she was still here. He had actually gotten off his horse just in case the bear had killed him. At least that way, she and her child would have a way to outrun the bear.

She heard someone yelling at the bear and wondered if they were sane but looked back. A KNIGHT! From her home? No, he was not dressed as there Knights would be. Warmly. She stopped and held Aiden closer. "Thank you." She put Aiden down but held him close. "I-.." What did one say to someone who saved you? "Thank you."
Aiden did not have trouble thinking of something to say. He did have trouble stopping. "That was so brave! My Father is brave, he would have done that too. I am to small to be that brave. Is that a sword? I have a sword at home. it looks like my Fathers, he has a big sword. Were did you get that..." and on and on he went.

"You are welcome," he responded, lowering his head in a slight, yet drawn out and dramatic bow. The child's questions were too many to answer. He tried to think of the first one and was going to mentally formulate a list of yes and no's, according to which questions he asked. Of course, his answers were going to go chronologically. But his plan failed when he realized he only asked two questions and that those questions did not lead to simple yes and no responses.
"It is from a land distant from here," he began to reply, looking off into the distance as if to emphasize his point even more. He could say no more. After a few moments pause, he lowered his gaze to the child. "One is never too young to be brave." Those were his words of wisdom and he said them as if they were profound and something that one should contemplate deeply about. "Perhaps your home, where your father and sword await you, is your destination." He said it both as a statement and question. "I offer my transportation, as a means to transport you." He motioned to his horse, calling it to come closer.

"I live at--"
"No." She cut off her son. "We are not headed there, but to a near by farming town. There is a inn there, and i would like to buy you breakfast, in order to thank you." And to explain things, maybe. She could use a man on her side to protect her. Maybe offer some guidance.

"Your offer is greatly appreciated, but what kind of knight would I be if I were to permit a woman to buy me food." He held the reigns of his horse. "Ride my horse to the inn miss, I will escort you there." He didn't really have a specific destination and so the inn was fine. He was hungry after all, so food was an excellent idea.
He lifted the small child onto the horse, and then offered his hand to help the woman. He then held onto the reigns once again, knowing that the journey to this inn near a farm would be one he'd make on foot. "Ride on noble steed," he said, once again in a dramatic voice as he raised his chin ever so slightly.

"What kind of gentleman makes a Lady insist more then twice." She teased. When he offered his horse she lifted Aiden up it. "It will keep him from trouble, but I am fine."
Aiden seemed very happy about riding the horse and keep talking about the stables his father had.
Ignores Aiden's ramblings and keeps speaking. "Besides, I wish to speak you while we rest at the inn." She pointed up ahead. "It's less then a half mile."

That was true. He didn't say that to make her insist on letting her pay for him. Besides, he had to wonder how wealthy she was...she did not look very rich, and perhaps they had little money. "I would not want you to be concerned about paying after you and your son faced such a traumatizing attack."
He listened to Aiden, but wasn't sure what to say in return. Marius did not talk that much as it was; perhaps the little boy would not notice if he didn't say anything at all. She wished to speak to him? Interesting. "You have my undivided attention from here, to the Inn and within," he told her, unintentionally rhyming, but it did have a nice dramatic tone to it so he was rather satsified with his words.

Letting Aiden rambal on she spoke to the Knight. "It was, very, very recently been discovered that while I am traveling, I might need a protector. You risked your life to rescue us. I would like you pay you to keep doing so. I am quite well off. You need not worry about meals, or anything." She would have to tell him the full truth if he took the job.

A job? She was offering him a job. He was not going to lie, he needed the money. He was traveling from place to place and it tended to be rather expensive. Some money would do well, but at the same time, how could he take from her? She claimed that she was well off, but what was a woman who was rich doing with her son in the cross hairs of a wild bear. "I do no understand," he admitted, though he spoke with a tone of somewhat confidence to try and make himself sound less stupid. Knights had to be confident.
"You say you are well off, you say you need protecting. My lady, I do not understand either. Why are you out here, and going to an inn if you are well off? And why would you need protecting?" He looked around the area suspiciously as he drew his sword. "Is this land full of bears? Do you need protecting from more of them?" He asked. Since he had never been to the 8th Kingdom, he did not know what to expect. "I command those beasts who lurk within the forest to depart at once! You will find no victory here, only death!" He said in a deep, once again, dramatic voice.

"I have much to explain, but surely it would all be better told over a warm meal and a warm fire?" She said hoping to bribe him a bit with food before telling him who she really was. She keep an eye on her son who was still talking about his father but also an eye on the knight.

That was true. That was oh so very true. He was hungry. But he still felt it too rude to let her pay for it. Then again, would he be able to afford paying for two-- no wait, three people? "I shall lead the way fair Lady! For it is preferable to discuss such matters over the warmth of blazing heat rather than the cold outdoors. Do you, fair Lady, know perhaps of a place which can provide us with such heat and nourishment? I am new in this land. I am unfamiliar in this land. Yet my mission has become clear to me the instant I stepped foot into this kingdom. That I must protect you from hungry beasts that roam the land, and lead you to safety. I have half accomplished my goal. Please aid me to complete it." His voice was, as usual, far more dramatic than it needed to be.
