I had always thought her life was boring; unexciting, dull...the list could go on. But ever since my adventure to the 9 kingdoms, things have been different. I found myself grateful for the time I have to relax, instead of being bored out of my mind. Don't get me wrong, I do miss the other dimension that I visited...it was fascinating to see fairy tales come to life- literally. But at the same time, I love where I am, and what I'm doing.
"Hi, can I take your order?" Virginia asked as she gave a polite smile to the customers she was standing near. She had a late shift tonight, which was fine really. She needed the money, so the more work she could get, the better.

King Wendell had just stepped through the mirror finding himself back in Central Park. It seemed so long since he had first come here, so much had happened since then. Everything looked different now too. For starters he was seeing things from about 4 feet higher than before. Wendell adjusted the clothes he was wearing, not used to being dressed in anything other than his royal attire but he had known that he would attract too much attention both leaving and arriving in the 10th kingdom dressed like that. So instead he wore some clothes he had borrowed from Anthony's room. They were a little big on him, but would still work.
Wendell looked around the park trying to remember the pathway he had taken with Virginia to work the first time. Everything seemed so different, yet he still had a sense of his whereabouts. He was excited to see his friend again (and even more excited that he had a friend to visit as this was a relatively new thing for him). As the young king found his way to the restaurant where she worked he was shown to a table by a hostess who told him his waitress would be over in a moment.
"But I'm here to see somone." He tried explaining but it was too late as the woman had already left. He gave a sigh as he looked around looking for Virginia, feeling grateful for the fact that at least this time he would not be locked in a back room (or at least he hoped he could make that assumption).

Virginia scribbled down the order and went to the kitchen to put it in. There were very few people working today, so she would probably have to take most of the tables. The hostess mentioned that a new customer had arrived and Virginia nodded as she flipped the page of her notebook and prepared herself to write. When she went back out however, she froze, immediately recognizing his face.
What was he doing here?! ... What was he wearing! Most likely her father's clothes...oh dear god. Suddenly, she grew concerned for her father. What if something had happened to him and Wendell came here to tell her personally? She knew she shouldn't have left him alone...he needed taking care of. It was something she had learned at a young age in her life. She shouldn't have let him stay in another realm- an unfamiliar one.
She took a deep breath and try to act calm, not wanting to attract any unnecessary attention. "Wendell," she said in a voice hardly above a whisper. "What are you doing here? Is my father alright?" She couldn't resist asking those two questions. She had to make sure her father was okay...though the fact that he didn't accompany Wendell made her even more nervous.

After a few minutes of sitting there, Wendell saw Virginia start coming over to him. He started smiling as he saw her glad that she was in fact working today so that he could find her without too much trouble.
"Virginia!" He said with excitement as she came over. "It's good to see you, you are looking very well" He commented. He then listened to her questions, realizing that she thought because he was here that there was a problem, and most concerningly with her father. So he decided to answer that question first.
"Your father is fine, he's doing splendid in fact" Wendell tried to reassure her quickly so that she would not be concerned. "I came to see you. And I thought it was about time I see what it is that makes you love this dimension so much"

He was smiling, that was good. Maybe he didn't have bad news to deliver after all. But she wasn't going to be totally relaxed until she heard the words coming from his mouth. When they did, a wave of relief took over. "Thank god," she said in a low voice. She had to admit that it was rather nice of him to come visit just to see her and what it was like over here. He would be in for a surprise.
"Its good to see you too Wendell," she said, a smile starting to form on her lips. She would feel to awkward calling him something like 'Your Majesty' or 'Your Highness'...it would sound too strange in this world. "He didn't come with you?" She asked, once again referring to her father. Maybe had gone straight to the apartment or something.
She looked around, making sure that the manager wasn't wandering around or anything. "I'm um, working right now...I can't really talk. I get off at 10 though. Do you want to hang around here and order something to eat, or do you want to head to my apartment?" She was a little worried about just sending him off in such an unfamiliar setting. At least when they had traveled to the fourth kingdom, they had him to guide them... well, dog him that is.

Wendell smiled as Virginia told him it was good to see him too. She was such a sweet girl. He could see how relieved she seemed too by his reassurances of her father's safety. He then shook his head as Virginia asked about her father joining him. "No, It's just me this time" He told her, knowing she'd probably be a little disappointed not to see her father.
He then listened to her explain how she was working so wouldnt be able to talk until she got off. "I can stay here and watch you work if that'll be alright. I didnt get to see much of what you do the last time you brought me here" he said with a smile.

He was right in thinking she was disappointed, but it was still nice to see someone come from the other kingdoms to her world. As much as she claimed she wanted to go home when she was trapped there, she missed it over there. It was a nice place, and she just didn't have the time to go back and visit. "Hopefully you'll like it here more this time, than you did last time."
She nodded when he said that he would stay. "Thats alright. Watching me work isn't very exciting though. Can I get you something to eat or drink while you wait?" She had so many questions about how everything and everyone was in his land, but she would have to wait until she got off work.

As Wendell saw her disappointment he wondered if he should mention how Anthony didnt even know that he was coming over here, otherwise he may have wanted to come himself, but it was a rather spur of the moment decision. Would that make it better, or would she only then be upset with him for not inviting her father along as well. He could always decide that one later. He gave a smile in reply to her next comment. "I'm sure I will, the situation seems much more in our favor"
"If you find it exciting then I'm sure I will too" Wendell told her, assuming that she must find her work exciting if she chose to come back to this instead of stay in his kingdom where he would have let her live a life of luxury instead. When she asked if he wanted anything to eat or drink he considered asking for his usual favorites of cocoa and a cheese sandwich but instead decided to try to be adventurous. "That would be lovely. I'll have whatever is customary to eat here, or your favorite dish from this land"

"I wouldn't say its exciting, but it sure pays the bills," she said with a light shrug, suddenly wondering if he would understand what that means. A prince's (or King's) work was far different. He didn't have to pay for electricity and heating; they just used fire and for light and heat. He didn't have to pay rent; he owned his castle. There were so many differences. No wonder her father was enjoying himself over there.
"Um," she said, thinking about what he would like. "Do you like lamb?" She held back a smile, thinking about her first time seeing Wolf here ordering lamb. "Or chicken?" At least that would help narrow the selection down.

"I see..." Wendell replied, not sure he did see why she had chosen this life where she would both have those bills to pay, and also was describing her work as not very exciting. Maybe during his time here he could convince her to come back with him to the 4th Kingdom. He was pretty sure it would be hard to convince her since she had already walked away from it once but it wouldnt stop him from trying again.
Wendell listened to her offer lamb or chicken. He was a bit relieved that where she came from didnt have food that sounded too different from what he normally ate. "I like both, but maybe I'll try the chicken?" He said.

He didn't seem to understand, but that was alright. He lived two very, VERY different lives. She had seen how he lived his, and now he was seeing how she lived hers. "Sure, the chicken is good," she said with a nod as she scribbled down the order. "And anything to drink? Wine? Pop?" She paused. Did they have pop in the other kingdoms? "Its a fizzy drink with caffeine basically." That wasn't a great description but maybe they did know what it was. They had watches there after all...who knows! It was a mysterious place, those 9 kingdoms.

"I will trust your judgment on that one Virginia" Wendell told her as she said that the chicken was good. He listened to her explain his drink options. This "pop" thing wasn't something he had in his kingdom and based on her description it wasn't just another beverage by a different name either, but he was very intrigued to try out the drink of this kingdom. "That sounds fascinating, yes, I'll try that fizzy drink...is there any floatation caused by this drink that I should be aware of?" He said wondering if it gave the drinker temporary levitational abilities, now that would certainly be something.
Wendell did feel guilty however in having her wait on him like she was one of his servants from the castle. Sure she wasn't royalty, but she had proved the strength of her character, and she had become his friend. He believed that she would be known to future generations as one of the great women of the kingdoms alongside his grandmother. "You know Virginia, I could send you some servants when I get back who can fetch the food and drinks for you, you shouldnt have to serve other people"

"What?" Virginia smiled. It was funny really. The things that seemed so ordinary in her world were less than so to someone in the 9 kingdoms, and vice versa. Over there, it wasn't weird for someone to talk to a mirror. Where as over here, if someone caught you doing that they might recommend psychiatric aid. "No. Its um...its just fizzy. It doesn't do anything much. It has some caffeine in it so might keep you up if you aren't used to having caffeinated drinks."
"Uh...thanks but no thanks. I gotta work." Maybe he didn't quite understand. "I have to have a job so that I can pay for my bills. Its not the most glamorous job but someone has to do it." She had let go the opportunity to live in the 9 kingdoms. Her home was here. "I don't mind though...its nice of you to offer, but my life here is a lot different from yours." She wasn't saying it in a condescending way. She was just wondering how long he would last in such a...simple world.
